Every time i try to log in to the server, it keeps saying it took to long so it disconnects. Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm not sure if this is related somehow with authentication server for Minecraft. It takes couple times to log in to the Minecraft. Minecraft's site was down yesterday most of the time and today too.
